Questions about Macular Degeneration
How long does the treatment for Macular Degeneration take?
The acupuncture needles used in the treatment for Macular Degeneration are left in place for each individual treatment for 20 to 30 minutes.
Does the treatment for Macular Degeneration hurt?
Everyone's response to the needle insertion is different. Acupuncture needles are smaller in diameter and sharper than a sewing needle. My wife tells me that the 'stick' is a lot less than when she pokes herself sewing.

How many times does the Macular Degeneration treatment have to be done?
Most people will have a course of treatment for 1-2 weeks (3 treatments daily Monday - Friday). They will receive the next treatment course in 3 to 12 months.
What is the cost for the treatment of Macular Degeneration?
Please see the Contact Us area of the site. The cost is outlined there. If you have other questions regarding cost please feel free to call us.
Will it work for me?
We currently do not have a test to see if someone will respond or not. This is why we like to perform a visual scan just prior to instituting treatment and then repeating it with near and far visual acuities after two days of treatment. If there is no improvement then further treatments are not recommended.
To see scans and results of our macular degeneration treatment, please see our Research page.
Is there a maximum number of treatments for Macular Degeneration?
No, there is no maximum number of treatments for Macular Degeneration.
How much improvement can I expect?
This varies from patient to patient. Some have noticed marked improvement in vision, others much less.

Can I get the visual scans done by my ophthalmologist?
Yes. We would, however, prefer the initial scans done during treatment be done at East West Medical Center. Follow up scans could be done by your Ophthalmologist or Retinaologist.
